If you decide to proceed with surgery to help you manage your weight, you need to commit yourself to changing your behaviour and to regular follow up care.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Multi Disciplinary Teams will produce their own information sheet, however, below are some examples:

 

Midband
Food Intake
  • The amount of food eaten is reduced but eat a varied diet - not limiting yourself to a small selection of food
  • Eat a healthy well balanced diet containing protein, Vitamins and carbohydrates
  • Carbonated drinks of any kind must NOT be consumed.
Change the way you eat:
  • Sit down to eat  do not be distracted – e.g. watching television
  • Spend 30 to 45 minutes on each meal. Take your time, eat slowly
  • Take small bites and chew thoroughly.  Do NOT puree your food, use your teeth to chew
  • Stop eating the moment you start feeling you are not able to eat more – feel ‘full’
  • Drink small amounts of calorie free liquids between meals but NOT while eating.

Activities
  • Do not lie down after your meal
  • Try to exercise regularly. Start by increasing your walking if possible
  • Adapt your activity to your physical ability or preference for example:  swimming or aquarobics may be easier for you than walking.
  • Please seek advice from your team if you do not understand why this is essential information.
