Main origins of obesity
An increasingly sedentary lifestyle
is considered to be contributory to the rising incidence of obesity. Physical activity has become limited among many populations.
Hereditary factors
A child has a higher risk of becoming obese if one or both parents are obese.
This is thought to be related to family dietary habits, and some consider that genetic factors transmitted in a hereditary way may also facilitate weight gain.
Some hormones
hypothyroidism, menopause, or some unsuitable birth control modes may increase storage of fat and therefore the risk of obesity.
Psychological factors
such as chronic stress, can also constitute an obesity risk factor. Other factors, such as daily emotions (anger, depression, etc.) may induce compulsive eating, which promotes weight gain.
